New Research Chair in Kidney Cancer in Atlantic Canada

Tuesday October 11, 2011 – Moncton, New Brunswick.

Dr. Sandra Turcotte has been announced as the new Canadian Cancer Society Research Chair at the Université de Moncton.

Born and raised in Chicoutimi, Quebec, Dr. Turcotte earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry as well as her Masters and PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Quebec in Montreal. She completed her Postdoctoral studies at the Department of Radiation Oncology, School of Medicine, Stanford University, followed by the Institut du Cancer de Montreal and CRCHUM, Hôpital Notre-Dame, Departement de Biologie moléculaire, Université de Montreal.

Dr. Turcotte’s research will focus on kidney cancer and her research to date has been published in more than 18 peer-reviewed publications. She will use molecular and cellular biology approaches to further develop targeted therapies to selectively kill renal cancer cells. Dr. Turcotte has won several grants and awards for her work, including a starting grant from the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation and a Fellowship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
