Questions to ask your doctor

Many patients find that once they have been diagnosed with kidney cancer they do not know what questions to ask.

Under the guidance of our Medical Advisory Board, Kidney Cancer Canada developed a list of questions that can help you get the information you need from your medical team – especially your doctor.

It’s important that you are not overwhelmed, so the first information you need is whether your kidney cancer is localized to the kidney or has metastasized (spread).

Where possible, we try to break information into these categories.

Remember, all decisions made for your care are joint decisions as you seek to achieve the best result.  You and your family should be consulted as you move forward.

The sections below will help you get started.

There are naive questions, tedious questions, ill-phrased questions, questions put after inadequate self-criticism. But every question is a cry to understand the world. There is no such thing as a dumb question - Carl Sagan
