JUNE 21 | Coffee & Art – A creative experience
Mark your calendars for a creative experience for World Kidney Cancer Day “We need to talk about how we are feeling”.
There are many different avenues to achieving mental wellbeing – reaching out to medical professionals, group support, physical activity, putting your energy into a hobby, just to name a few.
On June 21, 1 – 3 pm EDT, we offer a creative experience with artist Mary Intven Wallace. She introduces us to painting with coffee! No artistic talent is required, just a few “Coffee Club” painting materials in the list below.
- 1 heaping teaspoon of instant coffee
- Water
- Small spoon for stirring
- 3 small coffee cups or containers
- 1 saucer
- 2 medium or heavyweight watercolour papers (white cardstock is ok)
- Small and medium soft bristle paintbrushes (makeup brushes will work)
- Pencil
- Paper towel

Mary Intven Wallace has generously donated the painting “Summer Day” to Kidney Cancer Canada which will be used in a draw at the event. The winner will be picked from the participants present at the event. Mary will mail the painting to the winner.

Mary began painting after her first magical trip to Algonquin Park more than a half century ago. Her enduring enthusiasm for Canada’s land continues to flourish, especially when she paints at her woodland studio in the Algonquin Highlands. Honouring the intrinsic balance and beauty of the natural world is a consistent theme in her work. The luminous colours in her paintings conjure connections to the dynamic energy of land, sea and sky. Her vibrant artworks grace public and private collections around the world, winning awards such as the International White Raven Award and the National Outdoor Book Award.
Mary has taught art workshops across Canada and is a longstanding Haliburton School of Art and Design faculty member. The YMCA of Western Ontario has recognized Mary as a ‘Woman of Excellence in Arts, Culture & Education’ for her community contributions as artist.
